Last week I spent three days in Adelaide attending the annual Association of Josephite Affiliated Secondary Schools (AJASS) Principals conference. For some 13 years now the Principals of Josephite schools have gathered to renew, engage and recommit themselves to Josephite Education.

Following on from Pentecost Sunday last week we celebrate Trinity Sunday this weekend as the first Sunday after Pentecost to honour the Holy Trinity—the Father, Son and Holy Spirit. Although the word “trinity” does not appear in Scripture, it is taught in Matthew 28:18-20 and 2 Corinthians 13:14 (and many other biblical passages). On Holy Thursday we, as a school community, joined with St Edward’s to celebrate our Easter season with a very moving liturgy.

As we progress through the liturgical season of Lent we are asked to prepare ourselves for the most significant celebration in the Church calendar. This coming weekend we will celebrate Our Lord’s triumphant entrance into Jerusalem on Palm Sunday, where he was welcomed by crowds worshipping Him and laying down palm leaves before Him.

On Friday 16th March (Week 6) the College community will gather for Eucharist and a day of activities to celebrate the Feast Day of our patron, St Joseph. Joseph’s life was interesting and certainly challenging. We know Joseph was a compassionate and caring man. He was a man of faith, obedient to whatever God asked of him without knowing the outcome. Joseph respected God. He followed God's commands faithfully. Joseph is the patron of fathers, carpenters and social justice.

While the start to the year has been very busy it has also been very productive. Already this term we have had students involved in Peer Mentoring, a Mary Macs visit, Coast Shelter volunteering, training for Year 7 IT devices, a Scholars Assembly, Valentine’s Day stalls, a JJAMM leaders conference and a number of class excursions and sporting competitions.
