On Tuesday 8th August, our school community will be celebrating the Feast of St Mary of the Cross MacKillop with a celebration of the Eucharist....As celebrations of this important event occur in our schools and churches it is timely to remember, not only Mary, but the positive impact that she and her sisters have made to Catholic education in Australia. We reflect particularly on the significant contribution of the Sisters of St Joseph to our own college as we celebrate our 50 years

On Sunday, 4th June, we celebrate Pentecost Sunday. Pentecost has been identified as the birthday of the Church as it is the time that Peter and the apostles discovered their courage and went out to start spreading the news that the world could be a better place if we acted as a community that was just and that cared about one another, particularly those who were disadvantaged, the sick, the poor and those who need protecting.

Our Saint Joseph’s Day Mass on Monday of this week was a wonderful celebration for our school community in which we remembered and celebrated the role of St Joseph in being the husband of Mary, the father of Jesus and the inspiration for the Sisters of St Joseph.

For us as members of the St Joseph’s Catholic College community, the feast of St Joseph brings together our college motto ‘To Act Justly’ with that strong MacKillop tradition of ‘never seeing a need without doing something about it’, as well as an appreciation of our past and recognition of the dedicated ministry of the Sisters of St Joseph who have served the East Gosford community.

Ash Wednesday marks the beginning of the season of Lent, our 40 days of preparation for Easter. We will celebrate Ash Wednesday on 1st March (Week 5) with a whole school liturgy and the distribution of ashes. Lent is a penitential time in which we carefully consider how we are living as Christ’s presence in this world. It is a season of renewal where we make a commitment to reform our life: to become a better witness to God’s love for humanity.
