On Monday of this coming week, 15th August, we celebrate the Feast of The Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary into heaven. It commemorates the death of Mary and her bodily assumption into heaven. Mary was the first and foremost disciple of Jesus, the one who agreed to become the mother of Jesus without knowing the consequences.

We wish all Year 12 students the best of luck as they prepare for their trial HSC examinations which commence on Monday 1st August (Week 3). These exams make up an important component of each student’s school assessment marks for their HSC. They also serve as a valuable indicator of student progress towards their HSC exams in October/November. The rest of the school community can support our Year 12s over the next two weeks of their examinations by praying for their success.

There is a common bond between each one of us that is linked by the charism of Mary MacKillop and Julian Tenison Woods. Mr McCudden recently attended the annual Association of Josephite Affiliated Secondary School Principals Conference (AJASS) in Christchurch New Zealand where he had the pleasure of meeting and hearing from a number of Sisters of St Joseph who work in different ministries throughout New Zealand.

"The Easter message of the risen Christ," said Pope Francis, "a message of life for all humanity, echoes down the ages and invites us not to forget those men and women seeking a better future, an ever more numerous throng of migrants and refugees – including many children – fleeing from war, hunger, poverty and social injustice."

.....the Feast of St Joseph brings together our college motto ‘To Act Justly’ with that strong MacKillop tradition of “never seeing a need without doing something about it”, as well as an appreciation of our past and recognition of the dedicated ministry of the Sisters of St Joseph who have served the East Gosford community.

Already this term we have had students involved in Peer Mentoring, a Mary Macs visit, training for Year 7 IT devices, house group activities, a scholars assembly, Broken Bay touch football for the Opens, Valentine’s Day stalls and a JJAMM leaders conference. My congratulations go to all the students who have participated in these activities and to the staff who have assisted with the preparation and the organisation of these events.
