Interfaith Symposium at Parliament HouseOn Wednesday 12th November the Year 12 Two Unit Studies of Religion class was invited to attend the WATAC (Women and the Australian Church) Interfaith Symposium at NSW Parliament House, in Sydney.

The speakers on the theme ‘Religion and Peace – What are the Challenges and Implications for us all?’ were:

Tamkin Ansari, a Muslim Australian-Afghan woman Tamkin, an executive member of ISRA Australia – Islamic Sciences and Research Academy
Rabbi Jacqueline Ninio, from Emanuel Synagogue. Jacqueline was one of the first female Rabbis in Australia
Sr Jan Barnett rsj, the social justice co-ordinator for the Sisters of St Joseph and works with Young Christian Workers, Josephite Community Aid and as a facilitator and consultant
Graham Toomey, from the Wiradjuri and Wongaibon countries of Western NSW Graham is Director of Boomalli Aboriginal Artists Co-operative

The event was relevant to the current Studies of Religion syllabus as well as an enriching and challenging experience for all who attended. Because the course has a mandatory unit entitled Religion and Peace, it was a most suitable experience for our students.

The girls later met Sr Jan and had their photo taken with her. In all, it was an informative and fascinating day!
