Creative and Performing Arts
St Joseph’s Catholic College offers a wide range of musical and performance activities catering for individual needs and interests.
St Joseph’s has a strong tradition of choral excellence. Our College Choir gives students with a passion for singing their chance to sing exciting and varied repertoire, develop aural awareness and confidence through performance. Vocal Ensemble is conducted by Ms Dixon. Music teachers plan performance and learning opportunities including workshops, excursions, CAPA nights and eisteddfods. In the past these have included participating in The Australian National Eisteddfod in Canberra, (where they have won awards), singing in concerts with The Central Coast Philharmonia, performing in concerts with Chatswood High, James Morrision, Northholm Grammar School and workshops with The Idea of North. They also participate in service learning by singing at nursing homes, retirement villages and Mary Mac’s at Woy Woy. Singing at Liturgies and Masses is also a big part of contributing to the life of the college. In the past the Choir have won 1st place in The Central Coast Eisteddfod on many occasions. They have also toured to New Zealand.
Rehearsal is Thursday morning 8.20am – 9am in Shekinah. There is no cost.
Joey’s Eddie’s Concert band
For any student who learns instruments and would like the experience of performing in an ensemble situation. Current members play percussion, drumkit, flute, saxophone, clarinet, bass guitar, oboe, trumpet, trombone and tuba. In the past this ensemble has performed at Erina Fair, presentation night, liturgies, masses, nursing homes and retirement villages. They have also merged with St Edward’s to perform in the combined school musicals. It is hoped this ensemble will continue to grow in size and have many exciting performances in the future.

This is a new initiative conducted by Rosalie Bourne from the Central Coast Conservatorium. There are currently about eleven flautists and a cello. During COVID-19 they recorded a Christmas collection and have been busy rehearsing every Friday at lunchtime in Shekinah. Contact Teresa Stephens at the college for more information.
St Joseph’s has a long history of musicals production, which are organised enabling any student who has a passion for singing, acting, dancing, production etc to take part.
College musicals are usually combined with St Edward’s and over the years have included some wonderful productions such as Bugsy Malone, How the West Was Warped, Back to the Eighties, Grease, The Great Australian Rock Musical and Alice in Wonderland.
We currently have lessons which occur during class time once a week on the following instruments: piano, voice, guitar, bass and drums. Lessons are approximately $35-$44 per lesson. These lessons can be arranged through Coast Academy. Contact the Music teachers (Teresa Stephens or Linda Dixon) if interested in these. Rosalie Bourne also teaches flute and Vicki Harris teaches saxophone. Contact these ladies at the Conservatorium if interested.
