Library
The St Joseph’s Catholic College Library (known as the MacKillop Library) is a welcoming and vibrant facility that is the learning and teaching hub of the college. It provides access to a comprehensive physical and digital collection of resources, supporting the information needs of staff and students.
The physical space provides a range of learning environments including:
- collaborative learning areas
- individual study carrels in the quiet zone – perfect for exam preparation
- the fiction zone for wide reading
- the seminar room for small classes and group work
The digital collection includes access to a wide range of online subscription resources, including eBooks, newspapers, videos, databases and encyclopedia. LibGuides is the access point for the virtual library, and provides 24/7 access. A print collection of approximately 20,000 resources includes a wide selection of non-fiction titles to support the curriculum. The impressive fiction collection includes classic, popular and new-release fiction titles across all genres, in print, eBook and audio formats.
The teacher librarian works with faculties to plan and teach information skills to students in a range of contexts, developing 21st century digital fluency abilities. The teacher librarian also promotes literature and wide reading programs such as the Joey’s Reading Challenge, encouraging a love of reading and developing the literacy skills of students.
The aim of the library is to ensure that students at St Joseph’s Catholic College acquire lifelong learning and information fluency skills to enable them to function effectively in a continually evolving and complex society.
