During May, St Joseph’s recognised the importance of Reconciliation within Australia. The importance of Australia’s true histories and the preservation and celebration of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples and their communities. These were commemorated during Reconciliation week where the school became a busy hive of activity. Throughout the week we learnt the difference of a Welcome and an Acknowledgement to Country, we looked at the Sisters of St Joseph Apology, the meaning of the Native Hybiscus and the colour purple to the stolen generations and the history and meanings of the colours of the Aboriginal and Torres Straight Islander Flags. On the 29th of May we held our Reconciliation Assembly which was lead by students leaders. Our special guest Sister Jan told us of the importance of our Dash, and how we can all use our time here to make a difference for all. Her words were powerful and inspiring. The week was completed with a viewing of the Last Daughter which gave us a great insight and empathy for our Aboriginal brothers and sisters and their resilience.

The Josephite Sisters took a great interest in our true histories and Cultures long before the Government did. This importance is reflected in this Years Reconciliation week theme “Now more than Ever”. Just as this Joesephite sisters saw the importance of recognition all those years ago, it is just a relevant today! As Fynn and Neisha said in our assembly “This theme encourages Australians to continue advocating for the rights of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, fostering understanding and respect, and engaging in meaningful actions advancing as one as we look towards a further reconciled future. Restoring justice and equity for everyone.” #reconciliation #morenowthanever #dash

On May 23rd, Haleia, Sanvi, and Jasmine from Year 10 International Studies attended the Rotary Club's Mock United Nations Assembly as the delegation of South Korea. They spoke to resolutions regarding the Integration of Sport into Youth Crime Prevention, A Ban on the Placement of Weapons into Outer Space, and the Declaration on Granting Independence to Colonial Countries. The students demonstrated thorough research on South Korea, developed strategic alliances with other nations, confidently advocated for their positions, and were wonderful representatives of the College. This event provided the students with valuable experience in diplomacy, democracy, and global citizenship!

Well done girls, our entire school community are extremely proud of you! 👏
